HAPPY LGBTQ+ HISTORY MONTH! 🏳️🌈🤓 And what better way to celebrate than a lil her-story from the queer musical archives!
So, whilst crate digging in Collingwood recently, I came across this 12” single of ‘At The Gym’ by Man to Man 💪
I’ll admit, I’d never heard of this song until now (we’ve sold a few copies of their 1986 hit, ‘Male Stripper’ 😉) but this hot pink Keith Haring rear cover was TOO good to turn down. 💕
Man 2 Man were made up of brothers Paul and Miki Zone and they played an integral part in the 80’s NYC gay scene, touring with the likes of Sylvester and Divine. After Miki’s AIDS-related death in 1986, Paul continued to record music - including this one - under the new name ‘Man to Man.’
This song itself is an absolute bop… Listen out for the lyric “Do you wanna be like Arnold Schwarzenegger? Or at least just look like him”. Plus the video is a true masterpiece of high camp, with a heavy smattering of lycra to boot – Sunday viewing sorted 💪
