This is Alex's third album, originally self-released digitally on his Bandcamp. However, following the success of his fifth album DSU, Rules received the physical attention it deserved.

The album was remastered and issued on vinyl in 2015 for the first time. Since the release of Rules, Alex G has released three more original albums. His cult-like fanbase, which includes the likes of Frank Ocean, continues to grow.

Songs like "Mis", "Message", and "Sandy" showcase Alex G's distinctive personality. His music displays a serious knack for melodic songwriting paired with unconventional guitar lines and scrawls of fuzz.

These early records only reaffirm that Alex G is one of the most distinctive American musicians today.
