Year of the Snake takes its title from Nick Ward’s birth year, 2001 - the Year of the Metal Snake - and the Chinese Zodiac belief that a zodiac year can bring profound change. 2025 saw the return of the year of the snake, following the release and touring cycle for House With the Blue Door, Ward found himself in a period of deep depression, relationship breakdowns and isolation. 

Year of the Snake is an attempt to move through that darkness. Conceived between Auckland and Sydney with Timon Martin, Kody Nielson, Lucian Rice and Tony Buchen, Year of the Snake is a new evolution in Ward’s sound, with greater emphasis on widescreen pop maximalism, live baroque flourishes and a restless psychedelia.


Due to the effect, each vinyl is unique and may look slightly different to the image shown.
